Health Precautions and Requirements for Training:

As a participant in this course, you will be practicing skills on a partner and a manikin. The practice sessions require physical activity. If you have a medical condition or disability that may prevent you from taking part in these practice sessions, or if you have any of the conditions listed below, please notify your instructor.

Please request a separate training manikin prior to class if you have:

A cold, sore throat, or any respiratory infection.

Cuts or sores on you hands, head, lips, or mouth.

Tested sero-positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).

The American Red Cross has trained millions of people in First Aid and CPR using manikins as training aids. According to the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC), there has never been a documented case of any disease caused by bacterial, a fungus, or a virus transmitted through the use of training aids, such as manikins used for CPR.

The American Red Cross follows widely accepted guidelines for cleaning and decontaminating training manikins. When these guidelines are followed, the risk of any kind of disease transmission during training is extremely low.
